Do I need to hire an accident lawyer?

There are over 5 million automobile accidents in the United States each year, many of them fatal. In some instances, you won’t need to hire an accident lawyer.  However, if you have been injured you should contact an accident lawyer.

When you are involved in a car accident, you are suddenly thrown into a situation that can be very confusing. It is important to remain at the scene of the accident and contact the police. If possible and in a safe location, leave your car in the same position after the accident to allow the police to investigate and determine who was at fault. Provide the police department with your driver’s license, insurance information and registration. You should fully cooperate with the investigating police officer, however, keep in mind that what you say at the accident scene could be used against you in the future.

One question you may have is what type of medical care and doctors you should see. Importantly, if you need immediate medical attention, do not hesitate to call 911 or go to an emergency room. Fractures, lacerations and other injuries typically present with clear symptoms, such as pain. However, many people do not feel the effects of a car accident immediately. Oftentimes, injuries do not result in symptoms for hours or even days after a car accident. As a result, you may think you were uninjured after an accident when in fact you were.

Ideally, you will want to see a doctor right after an accident, even if you experience no obvious car crash symptoms. Unfortunately, late-appearing car accident injuries can result in challenges with an insurance claim. Waiting could mean you may not get full compensation for your car accident claim. The longer the period between your accident and your diagnosis or symptoms, the harder it becomes to establish it was the accident that caused the injury. You need to get to the doctor as soon as possible so they can give you a medical evaluation and start treating your injuries. The sooner you get to the doctor, the sooner you can start the recovery process.

After you go to the emergency room or see your primary care physician, you may need to see a specialist. Your doctor may have recommendations for chiropractors, physical therapists, or orthopedic doctors for back and neck injuries. An attorney can also assist in finding healthcare providers that your insurance will cover.

Contact an attorney to help you negotiate with the insurance company. An experienced attorney can communicate with the other driver’s insurer, obtain the necessary evidence with respect to liability, organize your medical records and bills, communicate with your healthcare providers, negotiate with lien holders on your claim to reduce the amount of those liens, and negotiate a satisfactory settlement with the insurance adjustor. Let the skilled attorneys at Salango Law handle your claim so you can focus on your recovery.
